"Actually it takes a lot of time
To pack a story in a rhyme
But I will make it just for you
So check out this very special cloud

With my happy but nostalgic moods
I will shortly introduce my touring dudes ..."

bmx masters 2008 - a story by vanessa gerner

all penisses off the course!
vanessa’s bmx masters 08 story

on friday morning at 6am our trip to cologne started, the registration was not to be missed. four hours later, we reached the cologne jugendpark. totally psyched i headed to the sign up, filled out the form quickly and lined up in the queue. ten minutes later we still were at the same spot, the queue seemed to get longer instead of shorter – i got called to the front, since i’m a girl.
i got registered, photographed and had to pay 30 € for entry and starting fee. afterwards i checked out the park together with becci aka rebecca berg aka miss manual. we had a look at the street course, where us girls were meant to have the qualification at 2pm. it featured a huge jumpbox, stepup and vertquarter, painted in fashionable black and purple and just looked plain hot. from this point on, all we wanted to do was ride, ride, ride!
but firstly, we visited the braun cruzer miniramp, which looked impressive, went to the flatland tent and checked out the most playful dirts i’ve ever seen in my life.

on our way, we met julia preuss and annica jonnson, whose bmx was still lost somewhere at the airport.

to warm up, we found ourselves a little concrete spot and started to ride. time flew by and it was 2pm suddenly, but the street course was occupied by 120 experts, who started in 4 heats which consisted of 30 riders each. this took a whole day, so the girls street class had to be moved onto the next day, the qualification was cancelled.

we were a bit pissed off but still full of energy, so rebecca and me went streetriding a bit. we visited the domplatte but thought it was way to slippery to ride.
that same evening, aurelie from france joined us. we spent the night in a vw van under a bridge, really classy! even more classy the english and dutch people partied all night.

on the next day – saturday – the girls street class finally started. even if it was „girls only“, lots of guys were on the course who had to be asked to leave the place personally by the organizer.
after 15 minutes of practise the contest in jam format started.
we had 20 minutes to show what we have got in our bag of tricks and every girl gave her best.
vanessa rocked the park with cancans, griz airs, fakies an her tiregrab-one-fotter. annica nailed her 360, 360 tailtaps, disasters, a x-up over the jumpbox and a hughe walltap. chantal tried to nail the 360 but had to give up after lots of tries, other than that she showed a disaster, a spine-jump and a 50-50 stall.
becci’s run was a big surprise! her slogan must have been „go big or go home“ – she jumped the funbox, did a manual through the park, landed a rocknroll, 180 over the hip and showed a tire-grab to fakie.
becci rightly took the first place, but the decision over the second place wasn’t really appreciated by all. chantal aust was judged as second place, third place went to annica jonsson, 4th place vanessa gerner, 5th place tekir banu, 6th place hsing ting.

after the contest, aurlie, becci and myself went to ride the suzuki skatehall and enjoyed ourselves pretty well.
on sunday, the award ceremony took place, but since becci was on her train home already, the first place looked pretty orphaned. after everyone got their presents and said goodbye to everybody, we headed off home again.
conclusion: damn, i was stoked.
