rebecca berg at the bmx worlds 2009
becci was so kind to write up a story about her experiences at the bmx worlds 2009 in cologne, germany. she also sent some pics for you to see.
sorry that it took me so long to put this online, becci! ;)
here it is:
-------------
It was early on Sunday about 8 am when I arrived in Berlin.
The station was empty, just a few 3-day-party-people took some last drugs. I drove to the hotel to carry my stuff there.
It took me one hour to get to the airport and another hour to find Jess (USA), finally she was in front of a german callbox staring at the phone, kinda confused but glad to see me. So we got to the hotel it was an amazing nice room with a balcony riverine.
We talked a lot about the difference between europe and usa - it’s crazy, but she was so tired so we decided to sleep early.
The next days we slept at the Mellowpark Hostel (www.mellowpark.de).
We picked up Angie (USA) from the airport, she was stoked cause so many people drank in public. In germany that’s so normal but yea the states are different. As soon as Angie came into our hostel room it looked like a mess cause she was going to stay for 1 month, that’s why she brought so much stuff with her.
We had some good sessions in Mellowpark and funny evenings with the UK dudes at the campfire.
On the last day I had to laugh really bad cause Angie bought cabbage instead of salad, it was too funny.
We also did some sight seeing. On the last day, we got to see checkpoint charlie, the leftovers of the Berlinwall, a holocaust memorial and lots of other places.
After the tour we took some photos in the park. Angie got me over that damn box, Jess did her 180° barspin to fakie and Angie was high (in the air) like always.
Then my mum arrived to pick us up to drive us to Cologne.
We stopped at my house for sleeping but instead of sleeping we hung out in front of the internet. It took us 12 hours to go to Cologne cause we were in a traffic jam for 6 hours. It was annoying but yea we arrived there at 11 pm searching for Nina B. But we just found Mini Park, the answer of female bmx.
So we finally went into our hotel rooms after a few reception problems. It was nice but not better than the first hotel.
On Friday we went to the youth park early, since we had to register ourselves. There we met all the other girls (Vanessa (GER), Zandile (GER), Banu (GER), Nele (GER), Anna (GER), Linea (GER), Shanice (NL), Kailey (UK), Tiina (FIN), Cory (USA), Nina (USA), Dorothea (GER), Natalie (USA), Marie (UK), IriNa (A), Julia (GER), Monika (GER) & Mini (ROK)).
The first girl I recognized was Cory Coffey cause she was one of the loudest persons at the place. I don’t really remember if it rained on Friday but I think so cause they didn’t finish the street amateur class. All the girls just waiting under this damn tree for the sun for getting some practise.
After the amateur class I decided to go downtown with Nina & Marie to get some food and to check out that huge cathedral. I went home early, cause I wanted to be fit for the next day.
So Saturday 11am: no practise for street girls and no contest for street girls cause they still had to finish amateur and other stuff. And all that stuff just because of the weather, it was like "sun - rain - sun - rain - rain - rain". But the Flatland girls rode at 11 am on that damn wet faceplate, some of them missed the contest so just 3 girls rode:
1st place Monika Hinz, 2nd IriNa Sadovnik, 3rd Nele Biener.
After a while in the afternoon, Nina decided to mix Vodka with Rockstar Energy cause it was freakin boring and she was not able to ride cause of her shoulder.
Then we watched Pro Miniramp and after that it was clubbing time. But first that huge display of fireworks called Cologne Lights started - it was amazing, I have never seen such huge fireworks display before. It was almost like new year cause there were so many people on the streets.
Nina, Angie, Jess & me went to the hotel where we got some drinks with the UK dudes we met at Mellowpark too. So we tried to get to the Gloria Club but the streets were still full of people, it was one of the horrible things. In front of the Gloria Club was a huge line that I just had 3 words for: "OH MY GOSH!"
I was really pissed but suddenly we stood in front of the door cause somebody admit us! Thanks to the dudes I didn’t know, we got in this club in 5 minutes instead of 1 hour.
The guys went crazy on the dancefloor, we danced and drank. I stopped my party at 3 am, cause I still had the ambition to show my skills on Sunday, so I went to the hotel with Nina. But guess what! It rained on Sunday, so girls street and pro street had to be cancelled. We all were pissed but we still had fun under our tree.
All in all it was an amazing week for me and I think a pretty nice weekend for all the girls in Cologne. I had one of my best weeks ever, great conversations, I met many girls I just knew from myspace, it was a very good experience, thanks to all the girls who took that long way from US to Cologne. I'm going to miss you all!!!
Thanks for reading J Angie never forget Ausstieg links!
